I use this constantly as well. The Droplets feature is super useful. I recommended one Shutter Encoder because it's free. I use Shutter Encoder's Replace Audio function constantly.

I suppose this is off-topic but since there's nothing to discuss about a version of PT that doesn't exist I guess everything is fair game.

I'd forgotten that I have Shutter Encoder and at one point even used it a couple times. After reopening today and finding a simple WAV audio export function, then saving it to my favorites, this app has become the quick and easy way to handle audio importing in PT Native. It's a drag and a click... done. An acceptable alternative until Avid fixes PT.

Also, it's a great app for creating DNxHD files (PT's native video format). I've had to use these lately because the video engine keeps crashing with the MP4s that I've been receiving from certain editors.

Since somebody else already mentioned it, FFWorks is a great and inexpensive (but not free) front end for FFmpeg. One really nice feature is droplets. You can set up presets and create droplets that let you drag and drop files onto them to convert. It would be easy to set up a droplet to rip the audio from video files to WAVs. Then you could do it by just dragging and dropping instead of manually opening an app, selecting a preset and processing. Just a thought.

The cost is small enough to be insignificant. I do like the idea of droplets.

And if there's a droplet for converting MP4s into DNxHDs then it's golden.

Droplets can be anything you want. Including that. I have a watchfolder.
But... just a suggestion: Apple Pro Res instead of DNxHD. ProRes has accelerated hardware encoding/decoding on Apple GPU (the gpu on the ARM chips.)

Yeah but does PT actually use it? I'm still on Intel so I don't know the answer.

DNxHD in an MXF container has been much more reliable for me since PT11.

Got the droplet going and it's a beautiful thing.

We've been using DNxHD for a while without issue. I had the same question as smurfyou: can PT use ProRes?

Yes. Been using it for a long, long time (along with DNxHD.)
I do not know if the AVE has been optimised for the GPU, but eventually it will be if it isn't already. So allowing the Apple GPU engines to take over decoding/encoding is a great thing. Otherwise most of us just have significant GPU power doing nothing. DNxHD/HR will never get that acceleration (good ol' Apple closed ecosystem)

Standard ProRes file is 10x the size of the original MP4, which isn't practical. The DNxHD preset I'm using creates files just over twice the original size, which is more workable. PT doesn't appear to be breaking a sweat with large sessions and DNxHD so I think we'll stick with that until there's a reason to deal with the huge video files.
