Looking from the 1400 reply I7 builds thread people are having success with their builds already,

without startin' a war, as a PC builder i could care less of when DIGI approves it. we are accustomed to havin' it just as it is on this side of the forum. we shake the trees bigtime over here. it somethin' that you cats, Mac users, really do not have to do from a hardware perspective IMHO

Wouldn't hold my breath....the original core2 Quads aren't officially supported, but they're running fine.

There are enough trailblazers chiming in on what does and does not work to allow Digi to focus on the things that don't. To officially support something would seem tough for them, only a few i7 builds have been trouble free and most of them are self-builds. Everyone with a brain tends to copy those builds. The same holds true with the Core2 Quads. I for one would never have the time to keep trying things until I got it right so for the most part we go with what we know works, supported or not. On the other hand, when Digi says something won’t work, it typically doesn’t.

Also, by the time that Digidesign has their testers build i7 rigs, qualify them with thorough testing, and then releases the specs, the industry will have moved on and the qualified parts will no longer be available.
