Default 6.9 using up TONS of CPU

As soon as I installed 6.9, all my sessions started crashing because of a reported lack of power. These are sessions that were running fine on 6.7 - I read that option dragging plug-ins could overload the processor in 6.9, but does this also apply to anything I might have Option-Drug in the past? It seems this should not affect the session once it is restarted - if so - all my previous sessions where I have Option-Drug (drag) will not work?

Anyone else have this problem?

The problem system is:
MBox
G4 Aluminum Powerbook - 1.3GHz
768 Megs of Ram
LaCie Firewire drive
OSX 10.3.8
PT 6.9

You checked that the setup hasn't gone back to 60% CPU usage, this always gets me when i trash prefs.

Pro Tools 6.9 works best with journalling turned on - have you tried enabling journaling for your audio drive?

Well - in the documentation it says that it works best with Journaling on -

Ive got it on, both drives. the only other thing that has changed between 6.7 and 6.9 in my setup is the Pultec bundle I bought.. I installed that on the LE system.... thats it. Everything else has stayed the same on my part. Any known issues with the Pultec bundle? Its the newest version...

Anyway - its stil pooping out on sessions I created and ran in 6.7....

oops - you were refering to 6.4- in that case it is my understanding that journalling should be off...

It becomes a problem if one is working on a project on different systems.
Journaling OFF has been the kind of ProTools default recommendation, so all my existing drives are formatted that way.

If I cannot run from a 6.4 system to an HD system to 6.9LE interchangeably, I cannot really work.

Does 6.9 take advantage of a dual processor?

Produce - have you tried the steps in the 'General Troubleshooting' sticky at the top of this forum, specifically the sections on trashing prefs and databases?

Regarding it 'pooping out' - what errors are you getting (the error number)? Is you H/W Buffer size the same as it was in 6.7? Are you using any of the newly installed plug-ins in your session? Do you recall where your CPU usage was at in the 6.7 sessions and how it compares to CPU usage in the 6.9 session?

What type of drive are you recording and playing back from?

wwittmann - you can interchange any Pro Tools LE or TDM version from 5.1 on up. There are 2 caveats:

1. Sessions saved in Pro Tools with a +12db fader gain (PT 6.4 or higher) will open in a previous versoin of Pro Tools, but mix levels above +6 will be incorrect, as previous versions cannot go above the +6db limit.
2. Pro Tools 6.9 sessions that are opened and saved in a previous version of Pro Tools will lose some data specific to 6.9. This information is covered in the Read Me for Pro Tools 6.9.
