Default PT9 HD and machine control V2 - possible on different iLok ?

Hi community members,

I still have an old iLok 1 with PT9 HD on it.
Recently I bought machine control version 2 which does not install on iLok 1.

When I fire up PT9 HD with both iLoks installed there’s no sign that machine control is enabled.

Looking in the machine control window, there’s the part missing where I can choose the serial port to be used.

A couple of questions :

As this license is sold as ‚for Windows‘ : is there a difference between the license for Windows and the one for Mac ?
Since no software has to be installed I thought the license on the iLok should be sufficient.
Can someone confirm this ?

Could it be, that PT9 HD (or others) do need the machine control license and the PT license on the same iLok ?

Do any of the cables delivered with machine control need to be installed to just see that machine control is working at all ?

Does PT9 HD play together with V2 of machine control ?
Or do I maybe need V1 for PT9 HD ?
Can someone confirm that ?

Thx in advance for your support
Mats

License is the same for Mac and Windows. (One license per activation)

Licenses can be from different iLok USBs

Just having a valid license should allow Machine Control to show up in the settings, even if no actual machine (deck, etc.) is connected.

Pro Tools 9 HD supports Machine Control, but the v2 license format might not be backward-compatible with older versions like PT9.

Machine Control v2 licenses may require a newer version of iLok (iLok 2 or 3), and PT9 may not "see" them properly when on a separate iLok or when using an iLok 1.

Thx in advance for your support

Thanks for the answers.

So the only thing left is a maybe missing backward compatibility of machine control V2 to PT9.
I’ll try to figure that one out.

Well … it’s at least like that for PT11 according to this post :
https://kb.avid.com/pkb/articles/en_...-Tools-11-FAQ/

There it says :

Q: Can I use an original iLok for Pro Tools 11?
A: No, Pro Tools 11 requires the license (or bundle that include a Pro Tools 11 license) to be on a Second Generation iLok (iLok 2).
Note also that the licenses for HEAT and/or Machine Control must also be on the iLok 2 containing your Pro Tools 11 license(s) for these to work in Pro Tools 11.
Click here for more information about iLok copy protection. updated 9/3/13

One could interpret that as „has to be on the same iLok“.

Well, PT11 and PT9 are worlds apart, but maybe they have taken over some bits and pieces from the past.

Btw : I recommend to download each and everything that can be found on the internet in case it’s interesting. No matter if it is information, pics or even software.
It will be gone some day and you won’t be able to get that information anywhere else like, i.e., all the digidesign or Euphonix stuff.
