Default Pro Tools 9 co-exist with previous install of LE 8???

Hi all,

I have used the ProTools LE for several years and purchased a crossgrade to ProTools 9.

I am wondering if there will be any problems with keeping my current Pro Tools LE 8 and installing Pro Tools 9 on the same laptop.

I obviously will only run version at a time but would like the option to go back to LE 8 should I want to for the time being..

Should I expect any problems or issues???

Thanks

John

You will need separate bootable partitions.

It's not that you should expect problems, but keeping your current system drive intact and building a new one for PT9 is always a safer choice.

That is my recommendation as well. Buy a new hard drive and start fresh with a new install of Windows 7 and PT9. Now one thing that may save some time(and maybe time on the phone with Microsoft about your new Windows 7 install) would be to get Acronis True Image(or similar) and clone your present system drive. Then swap the new cloned drive(assuming you are already running Win7) and put the old system drive aside. I keep all my drives in SATA cages for fast and easy swap, so that's another thing you might add Kingwin has a single version for under 20 bucks.

I probably should have specified that I am on a Mac OS X laptop but I figured this question was more generic and applied to both Windows and Mac..

In any event, I am curious as to the reason for needing them on separate bootable partitions...????

I suspected that there might be issues with preferences getting confused with two different version of Pro Tools on a single partition but would be curious, mostly for my own education, why they need to be installed on separate bootable partitions... Is it about the differences between version 8 and version 9??

I will un-install by version 8 LE Pro Tools before installing Pro Tools 9 and run the old version 8 on my backup laptop should I wish to go back version for any reason as I transition to version 9...

Thanks for the replies and the education..

John

You can only have one version on a drive. IT is my understanding that PT9 will overwrite 8 if you install it on the same boot partition.

Create another boot able partition for your mac. I have 3 on my mac book pro. 500gb HD partition 1 10.5.8 with pt8.1 to use with my original mbox and 10.6.7 installed on another partition to run pt8.05 with my 002r and another partition for windows 7.

I am going to upgrade to 9 soon and will be putting it ion my snow leopard partition.
