Default Firewire Portability

If I had a firewire drive with the 911 chipset, how portable would it be? Eg. Could I use it on another G4 and run Logic sessions eventhough I use the Digi001. Basically how portable is it? Thanks

They are as portable as your ability to unplug it and carry it. If you had room left you could store and run the Logic sessions. Formatting 2 partitions on the drive might be useful if you plan to do this, although they are not necessary. Buslink makes some FW drives in small cases and various Gig sizes. Be sure to get 7200rpm.

Thanks for the heads up. I found a Firewire HD with a IBM drive in it for a pretty good deal. (60G 7200 $130.00) My question I think was more towards how easy is it to use in different situations eg. recording PT sessions then taking it to a place with Logic and recording then bringing it home to use the files in PT etc..Is that possible? Are there any driver conflicts?

Go to the very top of the topic page and click on "Search the Answerbase". Type in and enter"Logic compatibility" and I think you will find your answer.

Try the LaCie Pocket Drive. It literally fits in your pocket, and since it gets its power from the Firewire cable, you can take it anywhere with you. I have mine formatted for both Mac and PC and use it to transfer all sorts of stuff from home to work.

Ive seen those LaCie drives. I think they top out at 5400 drive speeds though.

I've used 2x75G & 2x120G IBM Deskstar drives (7200rpm), all in Pyro boxes for almost 2 years now. Push them with everything from ProTools to broacast-quality video captured via firewire. They work flawlessly!

The Pyro boxes are a good enough size that you can transport them just about anywhere with a nap-sack or other tote-bag. Hot-swapable, just plug in and go. Can't say enough about them

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hey Doug,

I've been trying to figure out a way to do this and always get different answers. How do you format a hard drive so that it can be read by both a Mac and a PC? Is this what you've done?

What versions of Mac and Windows operating systems are you using?

Wow, any help on this would be great.

John J. I just bought a 60g Deskstar in an oxford case, partitioned it, and I loaded the biggest session in PT I had. Its worked flawlessly so far. Now if it works on my friends G4 with Logic audio I'll be a happy camper.
