Digi 002 ADAT In is out of order

Hi!
Please excuse my english! ^^
I can't use my Adat input anymore, because my component hasn't any moving little "door". This "door" hold the cable in position, and without that there are always big clock problems.
So I just need to exchange the component, but Digidesign doesn't want me to order it to them. They told me that I must send the digi 002 to a certified repairer, which mean that I will have to pay the send/return fees with the labour for the repair.
In fact, I am totally competent for doing the repair (just need to unsolder and solder he new component), and i don't have much money.
Do Digidesign have the right to force me to pay a huge price for this little reparation?

Unless you could find the part from a supplier such as DigiKey, you are sort of over a barrel on this. You might persuade a Digidesign repair center to just sell you the part but I would go right to the repair place and not contact Digi on it. The real question is whether they can even get that simple part or is it only available as a PCB assembly? Maybe you could scrounge a dead item that uses the same port and recycle the part(I'm thinking of an old A/V receiver or DVD player). You might also try a different brand of lightpipe "cable" as some may have a slightly larger connector that might hold better.

there are no solution for me...
I can't find the component because I don't know exactly its specifications.
the repairer told me that digidesign won't send this part, and that I will have to pay 200 euros for the cheapest estimation.
I asked digidesign they told me the same thing
I am pretty well disgusted...

We have one 002 that this has happened to and found that a blue rizla (cigarette paper) folded and wedged in with the lead holds it well enough to be used with no audible word clock errors.

Admitidly a very shonky fix but it works!

Hey guys, I have been looking for the little "doors" for the ADAT light pipe connections for the Digi 002 for a while now.

Anyone have any luck or are we all still in trouble??

I would not be offended at DIGI, they can't be expected to send out parts for free or even cost. And if you can't get a part number that is probably because of the manufacturing in some other country.
As for the cable staying put, I have had that piece fall off but not leave me any problems. Why don't you just silicone or glue into place? As long as you hold it in position and then stick it there shouldn't be an issue with it getting the way, just a drop would work.

now for reality, most towns have a electronic supply house with parts catalogs
take the 00x there and ask for help identifying the part
