Default Fxpansion. Now Nothing

Hi all.

I installed Fxpansion to use some VSTs on PT 10.3.7 Mbox Pro. I could never get any of them to work. I gave up on it and I've uninstalled fxpansion. My problem is now Pro Tools wont start anymore. It is stuck at the loading plugin portion of Pro Tools starting. Could someone please assist me to get PT working for me again. Thanx

Hi

Make sure that you delete preferences and databases so the plists get deleted and you should be good.

Christopher

And remember 2 GB is wayyy to under powered to even start PT10 and you need atleast 4GB just to ba able to RUN pro tools 10 so maybe that is why it didn't work. Also you can't use VST in PT without a Host of some kind!

...and if that doesn't work, go to the plugins folder and remove anything relating to FXspansion. IIRC, its:

What fxpansion are you talking about - the vst to RTAS wrapper or one of their vi's? You're not clear on this; if it's the wrapper that never really worked correctly. If you really need to run vst's then get Blue Cat Audio MB7-1 or Patchworks. Remember that you can't use vst's in PT any version; most plugins have RTAS versions as well as vst, au, etc.

2 gig ram is another issue - you're going to need a minimum of 4 gig and preferably more. Are you using the external hard drive for PT to record to? I would ask have you optimized your computer to Avid specs but your machine is so underpowered it's not even worth it. As a matter of fact spending more money on ram would be a waste. Sorry to say but you're going to need a new computer if you really want to run PT without issues.

You probably need to remove the wrapped plugins from the PT plugin folder. It's probably trying to load them and since you removed Fxpansion it doesn't know what to do with them.

Thanks guys. I'll try all your suggestions you have given me. I have 4 gigs ram. I copied and pasted this Sandra report from the last time I posted on this forum. Before I installed more ram. I definitely need a new computer. Hopefully I can get PT to function properly again until I get another. It was the fxpansion wrapper I used. So it is worthless??

Totally worthless. Never really worked right and is not getting any more development. You really should have posted a fresh Sandra report; it wouldn't cost you anything but a few minute's time. Good, complete, accurate, timely info is key to helping someone with a problem.

You definitely need a new computer. Less than 2 GHz cpu speed is a no-go for running PT any version. Honestly I wouldn't waste time trying to get this machine to work. PT will never work with such underpower. But if you're determined to and need a wrapper try the Blue Cat stuff I mentioned.
