Default Artist Mix / MC-Mix display died

Hello everybody,

after years of good service, one of my displays in the avid artist mix / mc-mix has died. It started with some flickering, then it went off for hours, now it seems to be dead. Because of the flickering, I was thinking that maybe there is just a faulty solder joint or so. Besides my mixing and mastering services, I'm a studied electircal engineer and have the skills and tools to re-solder and test the unit, but before moving to the hussle of dissasembly, I would like to ask you guys if someone had a similar defect and can tell me if ther is a chance to repair it. I was hunting down some pictures/video off a disasembled unit, but no luck, I only found some faceplate replacements but that's it. Did someone in here has experiences in a display replacement? Or a source where to buy a replacement (preferable in europa)? It would be appreciated!

Cheeres, Tomess

I would open the unit and see if there are connections to re-flow. Since its only a single channel that is out, that would point to a very localized failure

Hello again,

Today, i've tried my luck, bit did not succeed. The problem is, that there is a metal sield on top behind the plastic surface, which is soldered onto common ground of the pcb. It is really hard to unsolder it without damaging the solder pads below. And because there are plastic connectors nearby, I can't use a hot air solder. Mhhh...i will get a quote from a avid repair center. Luckily, it is not far from where I live.

Cheers, Tomess

That may work out well. Last time I had an Artist unit repaired, it was a flat fee(and a very fair one at that)
