Default AAF from Premiere works! (sorta)

For the first time in my career we actually got an AAF to work with Protools with one caveat: all the audio clip names are totally messed up and I have no idea why. It looks like it's taking the video clip names and not the original audio names. Anyone know anything about this? Trying to get original clip names in the AAF files.

Are you SURE that they are giving you Production Audio?

They probably created sync'd clips, they take the name from the video clip.

Yes--for the show I'm working on there wasn't a separate field recorder used like a 664 and I don't use field recorder workflow; they break out all the audio for me for mix in their timeline(s.) Audio is embedded directly into quicktime files during recording. I think they use a Pix260i. Even the voiceover I record for them and they insert themselves comes back to me named some graphic file which makes no sense.

Pix will not keep audio file track names in "Video & Audio" mode - only when used in "Audio Only" mode (not recording video). When they sync your clips it will retain whatever the file name was for the video/graphic.

Yes--however, when I feed them an audiofile (voiceover) it comes back to me as a totally different name, some sort of graphic file name. Makes no sense, unless they're syncing the audio to a video clip and then the aaf gets the name from the video clip.

In any case, the OMF file actually gives me the name of the video clip from the Pix260i which I want, but the AAF gives me something else--graphic file names, etc. which make no sense to me.

So how do you fix this in Premiere? Is there a way for editors to "unsync" clips so you get the correct naming scheme, one that makes sense? We do use the Pix260i but even when I feed them a voiceover file and they give it back to me in an AAF it gets its name from a graphic file, not the file name I give it. Makes all the file names totally useless to me.

Today I got an embedded AAF out of Premiere. Audio consists of stems that have been recutted with picture. All of them remained their original filenames after importing session data in Pro Tools 12.8.1.

Cheers

Getting an AAF from Premiere with real clip names is definitely doable, but I don't know what the settings were (helpful I know). Passing source timecode was definitely not doable when we tried earlier this year. EDLs and EdiLoad made it relatively painless in the end.

I was never able to get it to work with the editor--exporting an OMF to Audition and OMF out from Audition to ProTools seems to be the best method.

If anyone has any more info on this or how to get an AAF out of Premiere while keeping original file names, please provide detailed steps! Would be greatly appreciated!
