Default Input Buffer work with 3rd Party interfaces?

As the title says, i downloaded 11 trial to use with Apogee Symphony 64 PCIe card and can't see an input / output buffer option... does this only work in Pro Tools HD if you have either a native or HDX card i'm wondering? Anyone able to highlight the benefits i'd see by ditching my symphony card and getting a native card to run my system with ?

Are you talking about setting the buffer in the playback engine? If so, that's part of the Protools software, both regular and HD. I don't know why it would not show up.

Or are you talking about something else?

Keep in mind that unlike previous versions of Protools, in v.11, you only set the input buffer. The output buffer is automatically set at the maximum rate.

Can anyone explain what is actually happening? Bharath was kind enough to point this bit of onfo out in another thread:

If the new output buffer is automatically set by PT but still subject to the device buffer settings (input) then what is the benefit? How can PT11 override the device settings to actually output at a different buffer?

Because the input (record armed tracks and live aux inputs) and playback (=other track) buffers are entirely separate. Pro Tools is automatically setting the other playback buffer.

That was my understanding but Bharath indicates the device is still locked to the hardware buffer either way.

I assume it is as simple as the input/device buffer (you can adjust) is talking to the device. The other playback buffer is just buffering IO from disk or to plugins etc. (on non armed tracks).

That pretty much summarizes the dual buffer in a very simple way.

Sorry I am on time off for few more days and will write up a descriptive note sometime soon.

Thanks
