Default Question about grouping clips...

Good evening...

I would like to group two or more clips, so that they may be moved occasionally, without me having to constantly "shift-click" those clips together again. The answer would seem to be right-clicking the relevant clips, and simply "grouping" them. However, my attempts to do so affect not only the desired clips, but other clips near them. Please see the two screenshots, which illustrate the problem. Shot #1 shows the two clips (on tracks 1 & 3) that I wish to group. Shot #2 shows what happens after I've invoked the Group command; other clips on track 1 are added to the new group, despite me not having selected them in the first place. Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening? Thanks so much!

IIRC, use the Object Grabber Tool to select non-contiguous Clips.

That is correct; the grabber tool selects non-contiguous clips. However, the second screenshot is what happens after invoking the "Group" command...other clips near the selected clips are also grouped. I hope there's a way to prevent this from happening. Thanks again.

Unfortunately that's the way it works. They should have probably called it something other than "group" because it's actually just creating a solid block for a region of time on tracks selected. It's why you can move groups just like clips (it's treated as one object) between sessions.

It's also why a few other things don't work (applying a fade to a group and then ungrouping, for instance.) Or you can't suspend grouped clips and un-suspend. And why the clip list gets populated with "groups"

That's a shame, as I often find moving groups of multitrack clips very handy in other editing software. If anyone knows a way around this limitation of grouping in Pro Tools, I'd be most appreciative. Thank you.
