Default Is a computer necessary to hear from analog outputs?

Hi all, I am curious do i need my rack003 to be hooked up to the computer just to hear my line inputs from my audio inputs. I plugged my compressor from my mic preamp to line 1 DI/Mic and i hear no sound from either the phones, analog outputs or the monitor outputs. Is my unit busted? Do i need to have the firewire and system all setup just to hear from the unit? Does the rack not function as an
audio receiver? thanks for replies.

The only way to get audio out without turning the computer on is to plug your source into the AUX inputs and hit the AUX MON button(which does work just fine). I have my computer sound card plugged in there so if I want to hear any non-protools sounds, I just hit the button.
