Default 003r Standalone

Hi,

Is it possible to use my 003r in some kind of slave/standalone mode?
I am working on a Logic project and the producer wants to use my 003r as
a second interface (Fireface800 is the main unit). I can't seem to get the 003 to
do anything except power up unless it is connected via firewire, and when both the 003 and the Fireface are connected the Fireface freaks and displays a sampling frequency of -1073747!
Looked in the manual etc. cannot find anything.
The producer wants to continue to use the Fireface as the main interface.

Thanks, Bryan

The 003 products do NOT have a standalone mode and will not work that way. Same with the mbox products. They all will only pass audio to and from the computer.

Your only option in this situation is to use the 003 as the main interface for Logic and the RME as the expansion unit via Adat.

Hi Bryan, I have the same gear and have experienced the same issue once before. My advice would be to buy or even hire a set of pres with the same capability as the FF800 that has adat i/o.
Strangely enough, I use the revers of this when I need to use PTs. I use the i/o of the RME for the adat i/o of PTs and of course the RME clock. Sounds great and I don' have to use the 003R pres.

You can use the 003 in stand alone. go in the aux with 1/4" cables go out the main to your speakers. hit the aux button on the front and (no computer needed)... good luck

Well, that sorta works, but it's not truly standalone and I think they were trying to expand the amount of inputs, etc.

Ok... You are right. it doesn't work for expansion but it is a nice way to run audio threw your 003 with no computer needed.

Thanks everyone. Seems a shame this feature is not offered.
And Digidesign, how about an input mixer app similar to Motu/Fireface?
Would make my life a lot easier...

The regular mbox works in standalone. You only need USB to power it. That's what the mix knob is for.

As far as I know the only thing that's ever had a true stand-alone mode was the 002 (not the rack). However I'm not sure you can use the digital inputs in stand alone mode. I've used mine before as a little mixer for some acoustic practicing, but think I only had access to the 8 analog ins.

CME,

I'm pretty sure you're right about the 002 being standalone in analog only. Basically functioned as an analog 8 channel mixer, which is kind of handy. I wonder why they didn't continue that with the 003.
