First Thunderbolt devices now available
I saw this on one of the Apple rumors sites and checked it out on the Apple Store.
The first Thunderbolt devices are shipping and right now they are the various Pegasus multi-drive RAID devices. The cheapest one is $999 with 4 TB of storage. http://store.apple.com/us/search?fin...mco=Nzc1MjMwNg This doesn't really help us Protools users yet, but it's encouraging to see stuff finally coming to market. Also of interest is that Apple has a new Thunderbolt cable available to buy. This cable is what you'd need to hook up these devices. It also works if you're doing target disk mode from one Mac to another (assuming both have Thunderbolt ports). It also allows you to use the Thunderbolt Imacs as displays for your Thunderbolt Macbook Pro. Also, there's some rumors that Apple will come out with a new version of their 27" LED display that will also have Thunderbolt ports. This cable would also work with that, which is encouraging, because the length of this cable is 2 meters, which is way more useful than the current (and limiting) 1 meter mini-display port cable they sell. Lastly, there is a new Sony laptop with their own proprietary version of Thunderbolt. What's interesting is the design. The laptop contains pretty much nothing other than the processor, keyboard, and display, and some basic storage, but you hook up an external box that contains the graphics card, optical drive, and other ports like ethernet and usb, all connected by the Thunderbolt port. It's interesting to see where these companies take this. More info here: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...is_summer.html |

Re: First Thunderbolt devices now available
I've seen all of this this morning. It is good to finally have at least something to connect to it. MacBook and iMac users especially will be happy to be able to use more than just the one hard drive inside the units.
That being said, there is also a new medium, External PCIe http://www.extremetech.com/computing...lt-alternative This is like USB though, it is a "dumb" interface, and mainly need the computer for all chores.

Re: First Thunderbolt devices now available
As you pour the morning brew, plug in your thunderbolt for ten seconds at the coffee machine at Starbucks... update RSS, puppy surfing videos, the works, while you pour. Full Duplex.
