Before I do this, I should mention that these two drives do not show up anywhere on the computer but inside Pro Tools workspace. They don't show up on the desktop, in Finder, in Disk Utility or Network configuration or anything.

With that being said, would this command still be applicable?

They are not actual drives therefore wont appear under the Disk Utility list-but they should appear on the desktop-or on the root level of your hard drive(s) and they would look like ghosted icons,along with other files like .DS_Store or .localized.

Try the second Terminal command

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool no
Or this one

sudo chflags hidden /net
sudo chflags hidden /home
killall Finder

and see if they..go away

Tried this and it doesn't work. I don't think I want to try the other one:

sudo chflags hidden /net
sudo chflags hidden /home
killall Finder)

..as I get some warning messages about how it could erase system critical data. If I knew for certain it was the problem, then I would do this other command you gave me. But while we are just troubleshooting, I think I'll pass.

I just re trashed and repaired permissions and with airport on the net and home drives are NOT mounted.

someone in one of the threads mentioned it showed up after PT crashes... could have been the case although the last time PT crashed and every time. . I trash prefs before restarting anyway...

but maybe its a crash and NOT repairing permissions or something that causes those drive to show up and play with the loading time of sound files from the workspace...

Im finding several threads about this none seem to provide a definitive answer.

I am getting the home and net drive mounting in workspace as well on my home LE system.

Yes prefs and databases have been trashed. permissions repaired.

MBP 13" 2.53 10.6.4
Clean OS install and combo updater to 10.6.4, fresh plug ins installed with clean os install.

MBP fw800 -> Glyph Gt050q (with 74g raptor for audio)
Glyph GT050Q (raptor) FW400 to 003R and fw800 to another gt050q with a 1t WD Caviar black for sample library.

Dell 2001fp monitor connected to mini dvi port.
Using the USB2.0 hub in the monitor for ilok and Novation remote 25 or M-Audio Axiom Pro 46
and
Apple thin keyboard usb to a Kensington Orbit trackball

So thats about everything with my system.

Happens with airport on or off.

I have done tons of experimenting and it was pointed out to me by another forum user. When those drives are there, my importing is really really slow. When they aren't, it is as quick as anything.

I've been having the same issue with one of our rigs at the studio. The home and net directories only show in the pro tools workspace when someone has mounted one of your drives on their machine over the network. They need to unmount your drive on their system and then you need to restart your machine. That should fix the problem.

Just to be sure try unplugging any network cables and disabling any wireless connections before restarting.

I'm having the same problem, where it takes a long time for protools to import files from workspace since the "home" and "net" folders appeared. Not to criticize their products for my problem, but the extra disks appeared when I installed demo versions of audiofinder and basehead as alternatives to soundminer.. not sure which one it was (though I suspect audiofinder). maybe it's way of detecting all available disks to search for sounds?- but there must be a way to reverse what it did? preference? plist file? I've app zapped both and audiofinder did indeed have it's share of preference files, but trashing that and prefs +repairing permissions didn't fix the problem..
