Default Fan noise: best ideas for hum removal / eq?

I have a live recording of piano / vocal with a nasty fan going the entire time. I'm able to carve out a bit of EQ at about 160 hz, but still hear harmonics above it. All the plugins I've used have done ok, but when I widen the eq spectrum, I loose too much of the piano and it sounds very thin.

Any thoughts about better EQ plugin options, or Noise Reduction plugins that won't break the bank?

Currently the plugin that worked best for me is GRM Tools Band Pass. Also tried Digirack EQIII 7-band and GRM Tools Equalize with a good notch at 160 hz.

Is it possible to upload an mp3 so you all can hear an example of the noise I'm dealing with?

thanks

Had you try with Waves X-Noise? You'll just need to take a sample of noise and select the threshold level to remove it.

Herein lies a valuable lesson...record in the right environment so you don't get unwanted noise in the first place.

Waves x-noise isn't too bad though as stated, with the right 'addition' no 'subtraction' should be needed (perhaps with the exception of a little frequency EQ).

Varela: thanks, I'll check out X-noise.

Zedhed: um, thanks for stating the obvious... I'm well-aware. But rather than go into the circumstances of the recording, I opted to ask a question. Do you want to hear the circumstances of the recording, or would that be a waste of yours and my time?

I dont know how loud your unwanted sound is!

Check out the 10 day demo of Izotope RX.
It is better than waves.
The demo could not safe. But maybe 299 Dollor on ebay are affordable

Or try a demo of those DMG EQ EQuick has some very nice notch filters

Maybe a combination of both would be best!

Ale

RX is a great program but if you just need good notches look at McDSP's NF575 notch filters, 40 dB of cut with a 36 dB/Octave slope
they have a 14 day demo

The reason I'm stating the obvious is more for future reference to other readers of this thread, though I did concur about Waves X-Noise.

Oftentimes it's newbies looking around in here so I believe it doesn't hurt to mention the obvious at times....or is the DUC all about you?

Zedhead,
The DUC is about getting timely responses to questions. Some questions deserve background, others simple explanations. And somehow you think that explaining to "newbies" that I should have recorded better is logical? YOU made this about me, not ME. Please re-read my original post: I just submitted a simple question. You replied with an answer that wasn't necessary and rather rude. And when you're in the middle of a project and you need help, the last thing you want to hear is rude.

Inferring that it is somehow "all about me" is getting childish. You want to go there? Ok, so how's the view from your mother's basement?

Thanks Ale, I'll check those out - RX Advanced Denoiser was also mentioned by a collegue but it's $500.

The noise isn't terribly loud, but when I raise the overall level, the noise floor raises as well. The material recorded has varying dynamics and the environment was uncontrollable.
