i'd say it comes down to portability. both would do the 'music' job brilliantly.

I have a Dual 1.8 G5 and I spec'd it against a 15" Core 2 2Ghz Macbook Pro.
Same amount of ram (2 Gigs) and the same FW drive and version of PTLE (7.3.1).
The Macbook Pro won in my benchmarks in everything except disk transfer.
I would assume you will be using a Fw400 drive for recording so it's a toss up.

One thing I didn't like about the macbook pro was that the fan noise during heavy sustained cpu loads was rather annoying, since it was right under my nose, but this could easily be solved by an extension keybrd, mouse and monitor. However that's more $$$.

Since I already have an older laptop for my portable needs I decided to sit tight until I HAVE to get a MacPro for the horsepower. I'm not ready to trust my studio (humble though it may be) to a laptop.

On the up side for the Macbook is that we PPC users are gonna be left behind since so many great Mac apps are Intel only. Arrrrgh.

cheers!
