Midi Input freezing

I'm posting for my son who just setup an M-audio controller with Pro Tools First on a Windows laptop (so disregard my sig). He is having issue when playing an instrument track with Xpand instantiated (hasn't tried other plugins yet). He arms the track (no transport playing, no other tracks) starts to play chords and after 3 or 4 chords the instrument stops playing. Midi input meter still shows incoming midi, but no sound from instrument. System usage window doesn't show overload. Any ideas?

Tough to say without details on the computer in question. Try with DB-33 and MiniGrand to see if they act the same. Review system tweaks and make sure all are done, especially disabling Power Management on all USB ports(assuming the keyboard connects via USB)

Thanks for the tips Dave. Trying other instruments was my first thought as well. He hadn't gotten anything else installed yet, so we'll see. I'm a Mac guy, so not as familiar with Windows optimization like Power management on USB ports. I'll steer him there as well.

Interestingly, when he goes into record, midi plays thru and records fine. The freezing only happens when transport is stopped.
