Opinions on Marshall MXL 990 Condensor mic

I've noticed this mic has been selling for $70 with shockmount..its a large diaphragm cardoid condensor...I've had a Marshall condensor before and it was usable for the price...

I'm experimenting with some Led Zepp-type drum miking, a couple of condensors, maybe even one mic on a kit..

is this a usable mic, or just a another bargain basement cheapie throwaway??

I havent heard the mic personally but i do know that you usually get what you pay for. and especially for drums??? you might want to consider a better mic. but if it sounds good to you then thats all that matters. at 70 bucks the risk is low.

I bought two out of curiosity. One was defective and had to be swapped. They have less output, less low and hi end range, and less depth than both an 87 and a 4050. They're not useless, just not great. They sound a little more like a dynamic mic to me. Maybe try them on toms - if the drummer smacks one, no big loss.
