After going into 'setup preferences' and selecting either 'no peak hold' or '3 sec peak hold' the led stays red after hitting a peak once(on any given channel). I would really rather not have to keep clicking on the red LED to get rid of it every time a signal hits peak. Any ideas on how to rectify this?

That option applies only to the little line that that indicates peak within the meter.

I didn't think it affected the track, just indicated that clip occurred.

The only way to rectify this problem is to record the track at a lower level.
A compressor in-line would squish the signal some before recording and allow you to record a hotter signal. You could also use the gain plug-in in Audiosuite and reduce the level. Hope this helps. |

I'm talking about the little line that follows the green portion of the meter and stays at it's peak (NOT the red clip light). The option you mentioned applies to that little line, infinate hold will keep the line at the highest point (up to the red clip light) until a louder part bumps it up more, and 3 sec hold will only display the line at it's highest point for 3 seconds, then it refreshes. I sort of thought the level meters would act like on a console, hit red to show a transient spike and then go out so it could show the next transient peak. I like to run as hot a signal as I can without squashing it with limiting or compression.I like to adjust the fader on the fly, but have to keep clicking on the red 'clip' light to get rid of it.So I don't really know where my 'hottest' signal level actually is.

(Workaround) You might try normalizing or droping the gain after recording to get the level so as not to peak.
