Could someone walk me through setting up playback and recording of midi tracks
I have an ensoniq ts 12 board.

I'm assuming you have the 002.

To trigger, record and playback tones in the ts, you will need 2 midi cables; on from the midi out of the ts to the midi in of the 002, and then one from the midi out of the 002 to the midi in of the ts. Then you will need two 1/4" audio cables. You will connect these from the left/mono and right mono outputs on the ts to inputs 5 and 6 on the 002.

Then, in protools, make sure MIDI thru is checked on the MIDI menu, create a stereo aux track, and set it's input to analog 5/6 and make sure the level of the track is turned up. Then create a midi track, set it's input and output to the midi ports that you plugged the ts into. Now all that's left is to record arm the track, and try playing something on the ts to make sure you are getting midi and audio levels.

Disclaimer: I don't have a ts, so I'm going by the info I got from it on the web and how I would hook it up if I did. Hopefully, it will put you in the right direction to making some music with your system.

I would also like to suggest chapter 13 in the 6.4 reference guide (available from the help menu, or online HERE); it's all about MIDI recording, and it might help you out.
