Default Sound for FIlm - Quicktime import ?

I 'm working on a small Movie right now and I only have it as an AVI file . Does anyone know if an AVI can be
converted into a QuickTIme File so I can Import it into Pro-Tools LE ?
The File is two large to import into iMovie unless I split it up into seperate parts.
This is the first time I doing this the Movie is only 12 mins. Long I didn't think I as going to have a problem.
The Video Editor can export it as a Quick time File but even at that it would take a Few DVD to fit it on .
Are We over looking somthing ?

If anyone can help that would be great.

Thanks

John

If you're working for film now, QT Pro is a must! It's only $29.99 US from the Apple Online Store. Like the guy before me said, you can convert in Quicktime Pro amongst many many many other things. It's a good little piece of software.

I actually invested in Quicktime Pro, but was under the impression it would read .avi files automatically? I guess you need to open it and export it as ".avi"?

Hey John,

I was having trouble getting my movie to play out the firewire port. I came to find out the my movie was compressed and wasn't playing back at the propper (or supported) frame rate (mine was @ 29.97). So be sure that you are out putting you movie at the propper frame/compression rate.

I didn't have to worry about this because , The editor imported into his Windows computer. We are working with 29.97 fps , Thanks for the reminder . I 'm sure I'm going to screw this up at least once, What Fun. I couldn't just
be happy doing music...
I think Quick Time Pro is the way to go.

I'm going to buy it . I'll let you know how it works outs .

Thanks For Your Help

John

In order to be able to use the "Play DV out Firewire port" option in PT, the movie must be uncompressed DV/PAL or DV/NTSC and 720x576. Otherwise, you will be able to import tthe movie in PT but it won't play out the Firewire port.
As said before, QT Pro is the right tool for that job.

And while we're here, don't forget that, when using this option (thus monitoring on a TV set or any kind of video monitor) you'll get latency. This can be fixed by setting the Movie Offset option correctly in PT.
In my case (G4 Daul Proc., 1 Gig, SCSI UWII HD for video playback) the right offset is 12qfr.

I use quarter and half rez video to play out of FW no problem and it actually works better cuz it is less processor intensive and with a timecode burn-in it works fine
