Default Plug-ins.....Gone!

Used the unused plugin utility and when I went to open a session my most used plugins are gone. Strike, bombfactory, L2007 about a dozen in all......went to the Strike folder and it's empty! Did a system restore to yesterday ad no go. What happened and where are they? My HUI peripherials are gone too.

Went to DD troubleshooting:Start Menu > My Computer > Local Disk(C:) or correct hard drive (click "show the contents of this drive" if the files aren't displayed) > Program Files > Common Files > Digidesign > DAE > Right-click on the DAE Prefs folder and delete.
Start Menu > My Computer > Local Disk(C:) > Documents and Settings > "Your user folder" > Application Data > Right-click on the Digidesign folder and delete.

Now ALL my plugins are gone! Looked in my programfiles\ddigidesign\pro tools and the plugins folder is not there. What happened? Anyone?

Called DD....they're closed today! So much for recording today....

Used an undelete recycle bin utility - found 10,000 files, looks like I have to pay $29 to be able to retrieve and save these files. Moral of story - do no thrash your dae prefs!

I have never heard of any "unused plugins utility" myself. Did you look in the unused plugins folder? You may just need to move the files back to the plugins folder(there are 2 files for each plugin with the same name but different suffix).

it was the tech support utility:
http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...0&itemid=25770

The unused plugins folder is gone too

when I do a search for lets say, expand, all the related xpand files come up. When I click on a location file, it's empty.

When I deleted the DAE folder, per DD instructions it filled up my recycle bin so I had to empty several times. Now all my plugins are history. What should I do. Reinstall PT8 for the DD ones? and then reinstall all the others? Or should I pay the $29 for the deleted files recovery???

i read that tech manual and i do not see where it states, "remove DAE folder."

did you move your plugs to the unused plug in folder before executing anything?

i am new to pro tools so i am unclear on what you did and why but seems like a reinstall might be the easiest thing to do.

Sounds like you may have made an error in deleting files. Don’t you have an image of your system drive? Before any changes of any kind are made, it is important to make get a fresh back up image. I’m not saying this to any way scold or make you feel worse (I know have tragic these things can be,) just to help make sure it never happens again. If you do have a Ghost image, simply open it find the files and right click Restore.

Absolutely nothing on your computer should ever exist in less than 2 places. I always keep a spare C: drive so no matter what happens, in 5 minutes, Im back.

No don't have an image of my C drive. So my options at this point:

doing a clean reinstall of PT8

will install other plugs from source as needed

The Tech Support Utility wouldn't (and couldn't) delete the DAE folder, or any plug-ins. I think you may have accidentally deleted the DAE folder, rather than the DAE Prefs folder that's inside it. It certainly would explain everything that's happened.

I've done this before too. I just use the Tech Support Utility now.
