Default Running LE without 002r hardware attached ?

I've searched and have been unable to find this. How do I get protools to run without the hardware attached? The 002r is in a double-wide rack case, but we want to listen/edit each nights recording on our bus.

Thanks,

You can pick up an Mbox to keep in the bus, a little smaller than the 002r. Some sort of LE hardware must be attached for PTLE to run.

Ouch! Thanks though. I like protools, but I don't want to lug a big piece of hardware around with my laptop just to make it work (and this would be a real pain on a plane) and I ain't too thrilled with shelling out another $500 just to get something to make the software work. Guess it's back to Cubase or Vegas - not great choices, but at least I can use them.

Thanks again,

Actually, the M-Audio transit is qualified for Pro Tools M-Powered 7. That little box is just a bit smaller than a pack of cigarettes. Give that a try, if you're looking for portability.

OK, if I pay $800 for a Firewire 1814 and M-Powered I CAN run it seperately on my laptop, but if I pay $400 more for a 002R with PTLE I CAN'T run it seperately?

From a software standpoint I think the only major diff is lack of control surface support in M-Powered. From a hardware standpoint there are some pluses and minuses on each side, but from what I can tell for basic analog IO for recording the two solutions are about equal except for a diff in the pre's (not sure if there is a diff and which way it leans).

Somewhere along the way of my life I got the idea of pay-more, get-more. Not pay-more, get-less. Am I missing something?

Thanks,

M-Powered doesn't lack control surface support, and I'm pretty sure it can't be run unless supported M-Audio hardware is connected.

According to the information on the digi site, including their comparison chart of LE vs MP, MP does not include support for control surfaces while LE does. I am pretty certain MP WILL run as long as an ilok is present (ilok is included with software) and from everything I've been able to learn, LE will NOT run without an 002 or Mbox.

If I'm missing something please let me know.

EDIT: I was wrong and just looking at the Control24. MP does support the Control8.

Even if it could run without the M-Audio hardware attached, you wouldn't get any sound. It'd need the M-Audio box to output through.

Although i'm really sure that you need to have the M-Audio stuff attached for it to work.

The idea would be to edit using IEM's from the laptops earphone port. You ain't gonna do alot of intricate level setting or eq'ing, but I can do alot of cut&paste as well as critique concert tracks. I've been doing this with Vegas for about 2 or 3 years now. Vegas is OK for audio, but I generally like Protools better when I've used it.
