Default Pro Tools Freezing whole computer NASTY

Pro Tools is freezing my whole computer when I record or playback. It just locks up my whole computer to where I have to hold to power button to shut down. I looked up on Google what it might be. It's not saving / reading from external drive, Closed all background programs, switched computer volume to monitor speakers (so to not interfere w/ protools), disabled my internets and antivirus, disabled unused plugins, closed absolutely every program and service I'm not using (thought APACHE and MySQL services might be interfering), deleted any unnecessary and unused wave / midi files, and updated from 8.0.3 to 8.0.4 (Happens in both)
I know it's not my computer.. This thing is pretty hard-ass.

I'm running Win 7 64bit
AMD Phenom II Quad 2.8 ghz
6 GB DDR2
1 TB Disk Space
MBOX original (http://www.avalive.com/pimages/pimage_67538.jpg)

I usually figure things out by myself by Googling, reading and what not, but this has me completely stumped... I even thought it could be that I had a corrupt file and that it would only happen with that 1 file, but it happened with 2 other files, too.

BTW I'm using Amplitube 3, Steven Slate Kontak 3, and some EQ and compressor plugins my friend gave me.

If anyone can please help, I'd deeply appreciate it.

Peace and Love

Anyone have any ideas??

A computer uber nerd friend of mine told me that it could be updates coming from windows..
I have a feeling it might be the MBOX itself?

No one has ever encountered this error?

Are these legit? Because CRACK will mess your life up. Not to mention the people who love you.

I dont know for sure, cause I just got ProToolsand it has been the biggest headache trying to get it running... thisproblemwas happening with me too,and what I found out was a few things... I, too, like to ask John Google my questions and what I found was that
a) the hard drive should be at least 7200 rpm
2) dont use USB with Pro Tools but use firewire hard drivesand
d) there seems to be problems with windows 7 64, so running it 32 is the way to go

It's the original Mbox. It was retired at 8.0.1.
It won't work with any Win 7 version of Pro Tools.
