a while back there was a thread with a bunch of people having bad experiences with sampletank 2 (CPU hog, crashing PTLE etc etc).
but noone's posted on this for a while, so did the patches IK was offering solve the problem? What experiences are other users having? I'm thinking of upgrading my sampletank 1XL to sampletank 2XL, but not if 2 is not going to work as well. by the way, I'm running PTLE 6.2.1 on an iMac 800, using OSX 10.2.6 |

Well, my experience so far is that it just hogs the cpu too much. It nearly cripples my new 1.25 powerbook with just one instance running and three instruments playing. I suppose some of this has to do with the preset effects that are added, but overall, I'm extremely disappointed with how much CPU overhead is required. It uses WAY more than Reason does, even when I'm playing back a fully loaded reason session. For my purposes, anyway, it was a waste of money.
My hope is that they will trim the code a bit and make it run more efficiently in the near future. But overall I would steer clear unless you're at least running a dual G4 or a G5. best, AJ |

If it would unlock for me I could tell you. I switched Macs, so now it won't allow registration/unlocking. IK sucks so far.
Never used it much before, but it sounded okay for certain purposes.

I've only used it a couple times so far, but I'm happy. I have a 667 powerbook (running Jaguar) and I don't see the huge cpu drain that others see. The cpu monitor stays under half with three instruments (one instance) and several audio tracks. As for the sounds, they seem pretty solid to me. But everyone has their own prefs there.
The import sample function is pretty slick and easy. Sure it could be better, and hopefully it will be. But if you tried the Free ST1 demo and liked it, you probably won't be disappointed with ST2. |
