Editing a memory location as a Selection

Can't figure out how I can edit a memory location extending a Selection previously saved on that same memory location.
I can't find the way

Recall the memory location to make the original selection. Then extend it to what you need and right-click on that location in the Memory Location window. Then hit enter or OK.

If for example the location is '3', just make the new selection, then on the number pad hit period-3-enter

or just Control+Click on the Memory Location you want to update/overwrite - once you're happy with your new selection
