PT10.3.8/PT11.1.1 launch issues...
Just updated to these from 10.3.7 and 11.0.3.
When 10.3.8 is starting up, it rolls through all of the plugins without issue then appears to launch the software updater. Then, the software updater produces the following error: "Could not complete your request because You don not have appropriate access privileges (1) while opening "updater.properties". If I hit the OK button and close the updater, PT10 *seems* to be fine. If I close and launch PT10 again without closing the updater, I get a "Could not create a new document because there is not enough memory (-108)." error. Since I have pretty much no other apps running, and have a pretty good load of RAM, I would doubt this is realistically the case. PT11, on the other hand, will not launch at all. When I attempt to start it up, it gets to "initializing databases" and immediately throws a "You don't have appropriate access privileges (1)" error. hitting the OK button shuts it down. Has anyone had similar issues or have any thoughts on this? I have never really had any major PT install issues since PT5... maybe I've been too lucky Thanks, Chris

Re: PT10.3.8/PT11.1.1 launch issues...
Something else I just discovered, If the software updater is open, and I select the "About SoftwareUpdater" option, a warning comes up saying "A potential bug has been detected in Software Updater.
File:/Volumes/Development/123191/ProTools/DFW/MacBuild/../Views/UViewServer.cpp Line:620 Drop into the debugger?" The only option available is a "No" button, which when clicked, pops another warning window with this... "Could not complete the About SoftwareUpdater command because Assertion in "Volumes/Development/123191/ProTools/DFW/MacBuild/../Views/UViewServer.cpp line:620." Hitting OK from there closes both warnings. --- Chris

Hi
Have you tried to delete all the preferences, plists, volumes etc andrestarted the whole system? I bet there is something lagging around in those files crapping out your startup process. Best Wishes Christopher

Re: PT10.3.8/PT11.1.1 launch issues...
This sounds similar to an issue I had that was resolved by renaming my hard drive when I first got PT 11. Try that.

Re: PT10.3.8/PT11.1.1 launch issues...
So, been a bit since I followed up on this... I've been so busy that I hadn't had time to troubleshoot things further (since 10.3.8 was still working).
Anyway, I picked up a new late-2013 mac pro last week, and migrated everything from my old computer over the new one. After that, PT wasn't launching at all due to licensing errors (which I found was a USB3 thing). Once I sorted that out, I was still having the same issues as in my original post. Tried renaming the drive. Did all of the usual PT troubleshooting steps (deleting the DB's and pref files, repaired permissions... reinstalled PT... created a new user and tried launcing PT from tat account)... same result in all instances as outline originally. I'm stumped. Any other ideas? --- Chris

Have you tried just installing PT 11 on the new Mac? Maybe there is something going on with the co-install.

When you say you migrated to the new Mac. You installed Pro Tools from the ground up and didn't use the migration assistant did you? It may have happened but I have never talked anyone who's been able to use the migration assistant and have pro tools running properly.

Re: PT10.3.8/PT11.1.1 launch issues...
Yeah, I did used the migration assistant, which I've actually never had any issue with before.
I did re-install the latest version of 11. Unfortunately, the new machine is running Mavericks, so I can't clean uninstall PT10 to reinstall that properly. I did install it over the previous. However, none of that seemed to clear up the issue on my old machine anyway. Certainly seems to be a permissions thing somehow, somewhere. I think the problems began after I had a drive crash and I had restored everything from a backup. There were a bunch of permission related issues after that that I thought I had cleared up... but clearly PT still seems to be having an issue likely related to that. Not really looking forward to re-installing everything on my machine again. There has to be a way to fix this somehow.

Re: PT10.3.8/PT11.1.1 launch issues...
Just a thought, could you try holding the "n" key down while you open up PT 11?

Quote:
but seriously... to me this is the only way when thing like this pop up. just go through and download everything you need while reformatting the OS drive in the mac pro then install... I just went through all this over the past weekend doing one plug in at a time and testing and cloning along the way. NOW it takes ages to do it that way but so far so good. I also used the opportunity to NOT install the random free stuff that I probably wont use anyway and isn't critical to my workflow and although i have not been fully working on numerous sessions, my initial test have proven to be very stable. Worth it!! Also Ive recently purchased and used an ASC Avid Support Code ($40) and as pissed as I was that even had to do that. I actually had a couple problems fixed and they helped. and have had several follow ups over the past couple weeks, so its not just one phone call and then screw you... they have actually been helpful. again, worth it in the long run... considering I was trouble shooting for 2 months. in the end it seems i had an SSD going bad and I'm hoping that my stability problems are gone, time will tell, but both the complete reinstall and ASC are wroth trying when frustrating problems arise.
