Default plugin latency?

So what do you guys think, what is the max bearable processing time for insert-type plugins for live use? MC2000 is 4 samples - that's fast in my book. But even light waves stuff is 60+ samples, like L1 and RenComp. Do you consider that to be ok? The system I'm going to work on will be installed early next month and I would like to know if it will be a good idea or not to get the expensive but with bigger latency plugins on the system. It would suck to find out that for example the L1 could not be used on the snare as the direct sound (that will be heard in this small-to-mid-size venue) and the hit from the PA will be too much apart.

Well if this is for live use, I don't see that it matters any, not to mention that u don't hear those delays @ those small rates unless maybe ur recording 2 tracks of that same thing, same input... but if it's live, ur not printing the effect(@ least I would hope not)

60 samples is about 1.3 ms and in a live situation that is small enough for you to never notice it because of your distance to the PA (average of 1 ms of delay per ft of distance from PA to desk). Just turn on Delay Comp so that everything lines up in the desk and you'll be fine.

The only place you really have to be careful with the latencies live is when using parallel compression. Just have to know what you do, which is in no mean rcket science=)

Your keyboardplayer is probably having more latency with his keyboard than you with your plugs.

Have to agree with Rockpolice on that one.

In FOH situations, this latency is pretty much irrelevant, obviously it matters a whole lot more in a monitoring application.

On a sidenote - the new waves H-Comp allows you to do parallel compression without any funky routing or extra busses since the compressor has a blend control built right in to the plugin
