Default questions about pro tools

i'm currently running digital performer with a motu 2408mkII but i'm planning on upgrading to a pro tools hd system and had some questions:

is there any latency involved with recording/playback/overdubbing in pro tools? i only ever see the control surfaces in pro tools studio's, never like a real console which people would be monitoring from to avoid latency issues, does it work just like tape where you can record something, go back to the beginning and record an overdub track to the previously recorded track with no latency?

what other possible advantages would a pro tools hd system have over a motu system to justify the enourmous price difference? (other than compatibility of course)

thanks

Yes, you can record into PT with no audible latency and with effects as well-just like tape. We've got a Pro Control system here, but this is not necessary for the no latency monitoring. This is one of the main advantages over a host based system as well as the extra DSP for plugins.

Hope this helps,

Jamie

inaudible latency
IMHO - Plug ins sound 200% better
192 I/O makes 2408MKII sound like a toy
Bullet Proof
With HD 3 - Plugins Galore with no slowdown

I miss my DP but Pro Tools is very easy to use.

I am using pro tools instead of dp because

1. It is good to learn new things
2. I record and mix almost 99% audio - so I am not losing the midi stuff
3. I have recently gotten pro tools work and I want to be proficient in both programs

But I do miss some simple editing stuff from DP. For Example - when comping different takes - I used to love highlighting a section and hearing it immediately.
