Feature Request: record-enabled buffer size for VIs
I just had this thought when filling out the DIGI new product survey. It'd be nice if we could have a low-latency monitor path for tracking RTAS virtual instruments in ProTools. Right now you either have a high buffer setting to allow for lots of VIs...etc, or a low buffer setting so you can get useable latency while tracking, but if you need both to add a new part to a complex session using a bunch of VIs or other CPU-intensive plugs, you're kind of stuck.
What about having two buffer settings, a low one for record-enabled instrument tracks, and a higher one for everything else?
When you record-enable an instrument track, that track alone would switch to the lower buffer setting so you could have useable latency for tracking, but the rest of the tracks would keep using the higher buffer so the session doesn't shut down with CPU overloads. This would essentially keep the behavior of low-latency monitoring on record-enabled tracks and extend it to VIs as well where it's currently lacking... what do you think?
