setting start and end points for tracks? Why?
Are you trying to set your Bounce to disk start and stop?

If so, just drag a selection in the Timeline. The blue down arrow is start the blue up arrow is stop. You can grab the arrows to fine tune the selection, too.

Also, when I set these points, I want to hear it "loop" so I can do some critical listening.

In loop playback, it will follow the selection in the timeline..

You might want to look up Dynamic Transport in the manual.. There is also a Digi Accelerated video that shows it in action. It is handy for doing edits in a looped region...

Try selecting the space you want, and creatingia section marker. Then every time you chose that marker, the selection you want is highligted again.

Also, try avoiding bouncing... bouncing and printing to track are not the same in ProTools (one example being that Bouncing thins out automation data). When you print to track, what you hear is what you get, no smoke and mirrors.
