Default Midi arpeggiator for PT...?

Hi, back in the gold 'ol days when I was using Opcode's Vision there was a great little built-in arpeggiator I could dial in and record its output onto a midi track.

How can I do something similar these days within PT? - I don't always like using plug-ins' built-in arpeggiators 'cos you can't fiddle with them on a midi list and change notes.

Also on a related subject, anyone remember a program called 'M' by Intelligent software circa 1989? (OK, that IS quite a long time ago...) That was a cool midi 'algorithmic composition' app and wondering if there's anything I can use, again as a plug-in type thing which is similar, whilst using PT...

Thanks for any tips.

I LOVED the arpeggiator in Vision. I'm replying to this to give the topic a bump. It would be a great feature in ProTools. Perhaps even greater than the ability to assign colors to tracks (ahem).

If there's a way to do it that I don't know about I'd love to know.

I know this isnt an answer but maybe run vision on an old os9 machine or if your still running 9, just run it midi only and send it's midi out via IAC.

Vision is a free download now that gibson abandoned it.

Thanks that's a good point, I guess I could do that (I still have Studio Vision on a retired Mac), but was hoping there was a more slick solution though. Is there no OSX Core-Midi compliant little app that does arpeggiator stuff? C'mon there MUST be something!

OK SteveSZ and anyone else who might be interested... I found this app by doing some surfing tonight:

http://www.grantedsw.com/remidi/

Haven't tried it yet but I'll give it a go. Anyone else with other suggestions please chime in!

I second a full-feature arpeggiator for PT7

i also second the need for pro tools to develop midi effects plug-ins. digital performer has a good example of midi effects for its sequencer.... i.e. not just a midi arpegiator, but a velocity compressor, chord-izer, quantize, etc. etc... also, what about midi selection tools? ie. select all C#1 notes or all downbeats or backbeats of bars to edit velocities and timing....

Hello,

I know this isn't what you were looking for!! But in PT 6.7 there is a step input mode for midi? just select the beat quantization and press the midi keyboard etc!!

Regards
Chris

crizdee, I don't think this allows realtime transposition. Even if it did, it is not like a real arpeggiator. The great thing about them is that the 'accidents' which happen when using them in realtime can be very inspirational and take things in a different direction. Step input to me is sort of the opposite approach, you know what you want already.

I guess I'd like to see Pro Tools become more of an interactive composition tool. Its midi sequencer whilst serviceable is a little 'passive' right now. A clone of Vision's arpeggiator would be a great start guys.

you can select all C#1 notes by pressing shift-command and click on C#1 on the vertical keyboard in the midi tracks.

OK I tried ReMIDI's arpeggiator and on my rig it's unusable. Very very poor timing. And way too limited. Nope...as far as I can tell there is no useful third-party arpeggiator for PT on OSX at this time.

Digi, please take a look at this. Thanks
