Default Pt | 2021.10

There should be an update coming this month. Any speculation, rumours or requests?

- I have one request: to fix the glitchy GUI in the edit window.

Speculation would be Avid has had their hands full with Apple Silicon compatibility and a big hope that they could deliver a native build. Also sadly a big expectation that the initial Apple Silicon native build will be buggy, but with the Monterey coming they kind of have no choice but concentrate on this one thing right now.

To repeat myself, I do not have any inside information. It would just be a logical move.

just off the top of my head . . .

Truly integrated Dolby Atmos mode instead of the kluge it is right now.(ie Path order applies throughout, channels, busses, metering, all plugins (Avid & 3rd-party) auto-configuring to Atmos mode when selected). Full discrete ceiling speaker path addressibility. Ability to record a Dolby Atmos mix at a precise In/Out sample-accurate lock without having to trim/consolidate starts/ends afterwards.

Save Panning Presets (instead of entire track presets)

No top color strip for folders in the Mix Window (to prevent the mixer jumping down for every subsequent subfolder - after 2 subfolders you cannot click on the folder to open/close in the same position quickly)

More colors, and totally customizable.
Move the color adjustment panel expansion arrow to the top (rather than making the popup window larger.)

Re-configurable groups (letters, renumbering, subgroups, etc)
More Groups.

Fix the Zoom Focus Toggle bug for slightly offscreen or low-track-count selections (always bring the zoom to Top+Center+preferred size)

Batch Rename Audio Files (not just clip names)

Actual Spacer Tracks

Expanded Track Notes (option for track notes per playlist)

Ability to save a Window Config with the Edit or Mix taking up the entire screen, yet not jumping back by a few pixels smaller when it gets recalled.

Ability to configure the Bussing popup better, and choose exactly where it gets split into two "folders". (eg Sends / SubMixes / Spacers, etc)

A re-think of the bussing system, with an option to leave the window open for assignment to multiple destination paths (similar to an analog console bussing architecture such as SSL, Neve, etc)

Satellite auto-reconnect option upon session close & open. (a must for fast-paced scoring sessions with multiple systems locked, and quick cue changes)

A true MIDI Drum Editor (we've only been waiting 35 years since Cubase on the Atari)

Computer network DSP usage for offloading plugin load to other macs/PCs. (sell an additional license for this capability)

Forcing 3rd party developers to conform to providing bus-sidechain-inputs on dynamics-based plugins.

Multi-threaded Undo History

Good list, but expect a compatibility release before a feature release

Apple is finaly having a big event this coming Monday October 18th at 10am pst. I am hoping to retire my 2019 8 core MBP for one of the new 16" Apple silicon MBP.

Let's see how long Avid takes to make this one work. I would really hate to be a software designer. I see we still have users using 2012 5.1 Mac Pro's here.

There better be some features..
My renewal is coming up and I don't know about another year..
We lose half of our updates to bloody mac compatibility..
They'll probably add a lemon theme or something too..

Preliminary video engine and HDX/HDN support for Apple silicon was mentioned for 2021.10. Fingers crossed it might be native. Some other iLok protected software has emerged with native iLok support in recent weeks.

I am looking forward to seeing what Apple has on the cards next week. I’d imagine any new computers will ship with OSX Monterey though… so the whole Avid compatibility saga will start over again.

Pretty sure they are working on Monterey compatability so that the new MacBookPro's will be working. Native Apple Silicone would be useless right now since barely any of the 3rd party plug-in devs will be ready. Same problem with LogicPro. Its runs Native but a lot of plug-ins are not native yet so you have to run Logic in Rosetta2.
