I just bought Bitheadz Unity DS-1 software sampler - and am still having trouble with it (3 weeks after purchase). I'm relatively new to sampling but have had experience with an Emu E-6400 Ultra which was way easier to get started in and use and tweak.

The specs onthe Unity ds-1 seem good but beware

SampleCell II. I use it directly with PT LE via midi and drop the sounds in analog when I've decided on a particular sound or part. I wish that there was a direct connect for LE but nevertheless, the software/hardware is very powerful and easy to set up and use. I don't know much else about what is out there or the price ranges. The SampleCell card and software cost me about $1,200 new but has been worth every penny of it. Good luck.

Check out the demo of Soft SampleCell at Digi.
I did and it seems just what is needed, if
you don´t go for a lot of sampling at the same time. It could wear your CPU down!
It´s got DirectConnect and an easy userinterface. It looks boring and ugly.
But it does what it should!
If you want to use sampling a lot buy a used AKAI sampler! I think you can get it for a decent prize.
