Default Drum programming question...

Hey guys, sorry for the noobie question, but is there any way to do a musical keyboard typing option to program a midi track of drums? Like in garageband, I can go through and tap out a kick with the 'a' key, snare with 's', and so forth. Seems like it would save me a ton of time when it comes to programming my drum tracks. Thanks so much for any advice!

-Mikey
