Something like Heat for LE?
Unless I misunderstood something, I believe Avid's Heat can only be used on HD systems. Is there something like Heat that could be used on an LE system? (or PT 9 that isn't HD)
Just wondering...

Re: Something like Heat for LE?
Yes, HEAT doesn't work without TDM cards. You have some options here with Massey's TapeHead and Steven Slates Classic Console plugin. There are other similar plugins, but those 2 are the first I think of. I think URS has a console plugin as well. Massey and Slate can be demoed for free.

Re: Something like Heat for LE?
Here's a really inexpensive one by a really good company:
http://www.nomadfactory.com/products...tic/index.html it lists for $129 and you can download a trial : ) Nomad Factory makes really great stuff that is stable and works in ProTools brilliantly... http://imsproav.com/main/NOMADFMagnetic.html

Re: Something like Heat for LE?
I had forgotten about that one. I know with Heat, that when you use it, it installs on every track, thus treating each track separately, as I understand it, with whatever setting is used. For one like Nomad factory, or the others mentioned, do you put it on every track, an aux track or the Master bus?
Thanks.

Re: Something like Heat for LE?
I think actually Heat works in sort of an opposite way to a standard plug-in - in that it is treating the sound of the entire mix bus and therefore makes the mix 'gel' a bit more like it would through an analog console and tape recorder system. In a way it's *less* discrete than a plug-in, although you have a certain amount of control over the effect.
You can use something like Magnetic on a single channel, AUX send, or Master Fader or any combination... it really depends on what you are trying to accomplish and what the nature of the program material is. It's merely a way to add the effect of an analog signal chain to Pro Tools, and it could work for you... My best advice is for you to download it- try it yourself, and see if it makes an effective tool...

Re: Something like Heat for LE?
From what I understand of it the big advantage of HEAT is how it affects the recording enviorment globally, whereas most the other plugs you have to tweaks channels individually (I think the Slate Digital VCC can be applied globally too).
That being said lately I've found myself really enjoying Massey's Tapehead. It takes a little experimenting but I find it quite nice. In one instance I ran it on a channel I was using for parallel compression on a mix, the compressed sound with nice warmth from Tapehead mixed in awesomely. Very subtle but made a huge difference in the sound.
