Default Windows XP or Vista

Just got a new digi-approved HP XW-4600 workstation and getting ready to do the switch from Mac to PC. I will wipe the factory HD and reinstall the OS but wonder wether to go Vista or Windows XP. What are your recommendations ?? My system is HD2 ( PCI ), PT 8, Procontrol+Fader and EditpackThanks

XP is the OS to use. Vista is much slower.
Best,

What Shan said... I followed his advice and havn't looked back.

In the interim since I was dual booting Xp/Vista... PT in Vista broke on me. I won't even bother to fix it... hoping that I'll just replace that with the final version of Windows 7 when released since that may be the XP killer... but ????

Bottom line XP now...

Hey Guys-

I'm curious what your issues with Vista are?

I got it setup (dual boot) and running pretty smooth, and don't see a difference in terms of where things max out, I can use more memory for PT, and run lower buffers (not that it makes a big difference with an HD rig, but can be nice sometimes).

Did you guys run into specific probs with vista? Thanks

I ran Vista for several months and everything is so much slower on it. Many windows features sudenly start glitching, like out of the blue the "safely remove" function disappeared for external media devices. Researching on this did not help at all. Other features were giving me issues. PT would occatioanlly tell me that PCI buss is overloading and cant keep up with passing audio through. Switched to XP - all went away. Used the 3GB ram switch - can use more RAM now.

Summarized - Vista brakes easily, hogs extra processing, isnt nearly as efficient as XP. It's got some nice features like crash handling thats superior to XP but that isnt enough for me.
Vista became a show stopper for me whereas with XP my job is fluent and I'm able to work without interruptions.

P.S.: I did lots of research on tweaking Vista to increase performance and stability but it would not show much improvement.

smooth and stable vista, and now win7, for months at a friends studio.

vista worked as fast as xp, win7 is a bit faster/smoother than xp. not a single problem for him.
