Default Pro Tools 8.03 cs 2 And Imac 27 Work Around

Hi always been a Pc User, just bought an IMac 27 Inch using it with MBox 2 and pro tools 8.03 cs2. Its nice to know that we mere mortals in the pc world and now mac world, all have similiar problems. trying to use Pro Tools with the latest Imac has been a nightmare. On trying to load was the first night mare, then it loaded, then tried to create a new song couldnt enter name of new piece i was working on. So swapped the Mbox over to usb port nearest to firewire connection. That enabled me to start pro tools and give track name . Next problem was clicking record no input of sound, so closed Pro Tools messed around doing preferences setups and various configurations still the same problem. I then un-plugged the usb lead from back of Mbox 2 left out for approx 20 secs and replugged it in. This time i was able to start Pro Tools give track a name create track and voila actually was able to record something, it was brief and after hours of fiddling messing and frustration i was a semi happy guy . Ill let you know how it goes i ran out of time last night . Heres hoping. I dont recommend anyone buy a Imac 27 inch i5 until Apple And Avid sort out all the various bugs and hardware issues. Hopefully the next Pro Tools release will correct these problems So over to you Apple any chance of some firmware updates ref hardware issues.

Best Wishes
Kimball

Others, including myself are doing fine with the 27" iMacs and Pro Tools LE. The current version is working fine for me and I recorded 12 vocal tracks last night with no issues.

The usual questions:
What brand of external hard drive and how do you have it hooked upHow much RAM
what system OS
what PT LE version

Firstly this was a post to help people with a workaround not to have a discussion with yourself about your wonderful Imac that is already working besides yours is an I7. Ive been a Pro Tools user for the last 5 years. Just look and see how many views the post has had there are lots and i mean lots of users on here struggling with I5 Imac 27 inch screens. Im using a wd 3.5 caviar black hard drive with Oxford Semiconductor Ltd chipset. FW800 4gb Ram Snow Leopard with all the latest updates. It also states in my original post the version im currently using is Pro Tools 8.03 cs2. What did you actually and positively add to my post. Im trying to help people here that are struggling.

Regards
Kimball

I posted for two reasons:

Other i5 users have had mixed issues and yes while mine is an i7.

Besides your Mac OS version (my bad), you failed to mention any information about external drives, RAM, etc. that can help people help you.

For all we knew, you may have been running PT audio files off your iMac hard drive or off a USB connection with 1GB of RAM total. Your next email clarifies that you weren't, but signatures as well as your original post should have all the information needed to help people suggest answers. Yours didn't.

I wouldn't qualify your post as trying to help people vs. calling it a frustrated rant on PT not working. I'm not against rants, as when Pro Tools doesn't work, it's maddening.

Hopefully other i5 users with similar setups can offer advice now that they have a better idea what your system entails.

These two links should help tremendously as I've been tracking this issue since Nov 09 when I first got my iMac

Nedorama do you have anything constructive to add or do you have too much time on your hand's go play on your own post .If you have anything to add which you most certainly havent so far to this post that will actually help rather than filling the post with sarcasm. And trying to prove how wonderful you are. Final Lap guy thanks for links.

Currently the workaround that works for me, is leave the USB port closest to the headphone port open.

For some reason, you still need to jiggle the mouse as PT loads, yet another oddity of the iMac 27" ProTools Saga
