PT8 - Pre-roll w/Dynamic Transport on doesn't work - mystery

Greetings,
I almost always have Dynamic Transport on. In my "standard template," PT8 it is ignoring the Pre-roll setting (which is checked in options -and visibly checked in the transport). When I take it out of Dynamic Transport, pre-roll works again. I can also manually drag the start point back a bar and it plays a bar and then starts recording. I booted back up under 7.4 to verify how I thought it worked - and yes, the same template does apply the Pre-roll option with Dynamic Transport on.
As a check, I used one of the templates that comes with PT8, and Pre-roll DOES work with Dynamic Transport. That leads me to believe there must be some setting in my template that appears to be changing this behavior. I do note that when I click on Pre-roll in my template, it moves the start point back a bar, but it changes from a blue triangle to a white triangle (and of course ignores the start point, starting immediately at the loop beginning). I have scoured manual and settings and I cannot figure out what's causing the different behavior.
Anyone else run into this and know what the switch on behavior is?
