Default Pelican Air 1535 (no foam) hold a Carbon (at an angle)

Hi all

any chance anyone has a Pelican Air 1535 (no foam) case and is using it to carry around a Carbon (at an angle)

the interior (no foam) of the Pelican Air 1535 is: Interior: 20.4" × 11.2" × 7.2"

Avid Carbon = 19” x 13.5” deep x 1U (1.75")

Yes i'd need to angle the Carbon to make it (hopefully) fit, and would pack soft clothing all around it, and would carry on only, not checked luggage.

https://www.amazon.com/Pelican-1535-.../dp/B08C9SPDDP

UPDATE - the hypotenuse on the Pelican 1535 = 13.31 inches (too short for carbon i think)

:-(

I would also like a carry on case that could hold the Carbon.
Any other models that would work ??

Does it need to be a Pelican case?

If it’s carry on luggage, it probably doesn’t need to be in a Pelican style hard case.

Why not look at those foam padded bags? Rockville and Gator make them in all sorts of configurations. 1RU, 2RU etc. Some have an aluminium frame inside the foam.

That’s what I’d do. Hell of a lot lighter, compact and I think would be durable enough as carry on luggage. Probably wouldn’t throw it in as checked baggage though.

it is quite a bit (4") too thick - as *exterior* is 22.07 x 17.92 x 10.42 inches - i dont think it would fit in an overhead bin.....

TSA USA carry on max: 22" x 14" x 9", which includes*the handle and the wheels.

you might get lucky, but you might have to gate check it.....
also international carry on size is a little smaller... i believe.

also the Carbon is 13.5" deep - do you think it'll fit, even at an angle?

yes, an option

however sometimes the plane overhead gets full before you get on the plane, then you HAVE to gate check your carry on bag, and good luck with a Carbon interface in a lightweight rack bag.... it is pretty likely to get bent / damaged / etc.

This too:

http://www.skbcases.com/industrial/p...s#.YLpBQ5MzbOQ

Ive toured for years and years with this carry on:
https://www.scaliagroup.net/rimowa-s...tte-black.html

And I have almost never had to gate check it.
You can also tell the gate agent you have fragile audio gear and they will usually make sure you can get it on.
