Default Getting a blue D-Command

In need of some advice:

Hopefully around this tomorrow, I might have replaced a 32 fader Pro Control for 8 faders of the blue D-Command (that might grow to 24 sooner than later ).

Besides checking the faders, leds and meters and performing all the diagnostics tests, should I be looking for something in particular?

By the way, I was just doing the ROTARY test on the D-Command ES at work, and I could not understand what it is exactly doing. Could anybody please explain?

The main things that go wrong with D-Commands/D-Controls are - faders, power supplies, touch controls going over-sensitive. Faders are cheap(ish unless you have to do 24-32!). Power supplies aren't that expensive but are fiddly to change in D-Controls, not so bad in D-Commands. Touch controls going into write without being touched is a big problem, the circuits aren't user adjustable. That's a panel swap usually.

It shows the touch sensing oscillators. On a D-Control they should be green and showing the frequency when not touched and red and showing the frequency when touched. If any of them are red when not being touched you have a problem.

Many-many thanks for the info Pete. That's all great to know!

On the ES today, the oscillators where changing frequency, +/- 3Khz, in 1Khz steps, without being touched (not inappropriately at least ). Should I suppose this is the norm (?) as the desk behaves without any issues whatsoever.

With the Blue ICONs been considered "unsupported", how easy is to find the equivalent to the ES components through Avid? Do they outright deny fixing/ replacing components?!

Yup, that's usual. It's a tuned circuit where the frequency drops when you add extra capacitance by touching it. There's going to be slight variations due to humidity etc.

No idea (yet), doubt they'll withhold supplies but they may become increasingly scarce.

I bought 40 odd from this person - they are new - some a bit dusty but I blew them clean easily and they work 100% - These are the carbon ones - better than the conductive plastic ones that came in the blue.
You only have to swop 2 of the wires around - only takes a minute!
