keyboard shortcut
is there a shortcut that will allow a clip to be trimmed out to the playhead location?
I know it can be done using marker numbers, periods and a whole heap of other keys...but an easy way would be great!. Can anybody tell me if the shortcut list that came with PT is a full list or not? and if not, is there anywhere a full list can be obtained? thanks

Re: keyboard shortcut
There is a digiguide- which I think is in the help pulldown, which lists the keycommands and focus key shortcuts.
I am not sure what you mean by the description of what you wanted to do, but there are certainly keystrokes which can make it easier... charles maynes

Re: keyboard shortcut
thanks Charles - i have looked in those guides and found nothing useful.
what i am wanting to do is :- similar to using the trim tool to open out a clip, but by parking the playhead at the position you want to trim out to. I often find that i need to drag an effect out, and because mine is only a basic setup, when trimming I don't see the video updating - it remains frozen. So i have to muck about getting the trim just right. I want to be able to move the playhead about until i'm at the right place, then hit a button and have the clip trim itself out to that point. Exactly the same as the "Extend Edit" button does on an avid - never thought i'd be hankering after an avid feature! It sounds a simple little thing, but as its something i do a lot of, an easy one/two button shortcut would save me loads of time.

Re: keyboard shortcut
You might be able to do it providing your time line doesn't follow edit select by just using the trim key "A". But if your working like most people then PT would have no way of knowing what region you wanted to to the cursor. It could guess but .... I usually work the reverse, pull out the region then trim down to where I want it.

Re: keyboard shortcut
You could try using the trimmer tool in spot mode. If you can remember the exact frame number of the playhead position, use the trim tool in spot and enter the new start time. The only problem is that as soon as you hit the region with the trimmer it highlights, and moves the playhead position to the start of the region, changing the TC display. But if you have a good memory, or if your video parks independently of the playhead (ie tape machine), it could work for you.

Re: keyboard shortcut
thanks for the suggestions, but they are all as awkward as just trimming it out and back again.
I guess its one shortcut that doesn't exist - pity really, as it would be very useful. Oh well, back to the trimmer.

Re: keyboard shortcut
If you hold down SHIFT it keeps the selection of where your playhead cursor is/was then you can just line up your trim to that point.. Not automated though.
Maybe a quick key might be in order.. |

Re: keyboard shortcut
Thanks Matt - that really is a big help.
Makes it quick and easy to get right to the point.

Re: keyboard shortcut
try this... extend the reigion in question well past the desired edit point. Then find your edit point with the playhead and the cursor in the track in question. When you are there.. in comand focus mode hit the "S" key.. if not in command focus mode "control + S" will do it.
There you have it. T

If the element is the only one in the track or if others are locked you can use this in Shuffle Mode. Select, hit delete, bingo. But it also sounds like what you want to acomplish can be done with Scrub Sync Point then "A" key. |
