@dodlum: I have the same experience since 7.2.

I see this problem almost daily. The "select unused" & "remove selected" sequence is definitely broken. It has been a bug (for me) since 7.1

I've reproduced this bug and documented it with video:

Nice Paul. Just for reference Command+Shift+U does clear the Undo History Buffer.. so no regions in the undo buffer should remain once you use that command.

Hold the phone! I might be onto something here.

I think that this problem only comes up with sessions that have used Region Groups. I might be wrong, but I think we should all start looking at that as a possibility.

I just did a "final clear out" (as demonstrated in the posted video) on 3 songs. The problem showed up in 1 but not the other 2. I KNOW that the song with the error had Region Groups but the other 2 didn't.

Can anyone confirm or refute?

Hmm. Paul I see this all the time as well. I do use Region groups often so I will try to reproduce when I get a moment.

I just saw this problem for the first time a few days ago, or maybe it was just the first time that I found the problem.

I am running 7.2, but was editing a session that started on a 7.3 rig. Did the correct routine as Rail described, but some unused files got copied over. I did the same routine again, and this time it worked as it should and it didn't copy any unused files (or maaybe just a few).

I don't use regions groups.

Thanks very much for the input, but I have a question. You say that the session started on a 7.3 rig; did this come from another PT user or were you the one (and only one) running the 7.3 rig? Is there any chance that Region Groups were used? Even once?

If it came from someone else, there's always the chance some regions may have been grouped (and then ungrouped) without your knowledge and before delivery to you.
