Unhappy Tried everything, can't get Pro Tools to Appear after Opening
I used to be able to open up Pro Tools LE fine, but it's no longer opening up.

Here's what's happening:

1. I double-click the Pro Tools LE icon (or anywhere else this icon is and even tried the .exe directly)

2. The ProToolsLE.exe appears in my Processes in Task Manager

3. Pro Tools LE never appears to actually open for me to use, it just stays in the background forever until I end the process.

Here's what I've tried:

1. I've tried completely uninstalling Pro Tools LE and reinstalling - still not working

2. I've tried updating to cs9, it finishes - still not working

3. I've tried following all of the instructions to optimize the XP OS (startups / services) - still not working

4. I've tried to "repair" the installation - still not working

5. I've tried Tech Support Utility.exe and every option it offers - still not working

Can someone help me out? I worked on this all night last night when I should have been laying down some razor sharp chords

I saw the common files folder there in my last version list, so I uninstalled again and deleted that folder in hopes it was a plug-in that was causing the issue - still not working

How long is "forever" ? I've seen this on a remote installation but eventually the GUI turned up - was related to some services or network related processes (if I remember correctly) that needed to finish before the PT process got attention to finish loading.

Nothing yet, it's been nearly an hour. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't take this long. This has also happened btw on a very limited boot (with no startups or non-ms services running) so it doesn't look like it's interference from other programs.

ok - seems to be something else then.

If I think of something I'll chime in later. I guess going through the troubleshooting threads in the sticky section is a place to start as well - then lots of people here usually can assist in more detail, when knowing what's been done and not.

This will most likely fix it:

Delete your cookies folder (the whole folder, not just the files in it). More specifically, you need to get rid of your index.dat file in your cookies folder.

Why? Because PT is a poorly written piece of crap.

P.S. It may not allow you to delete it (because it'll say it's already in use), and if that's the case, then you'll have to get one of those small apps that allows you to delete a file on reboot.


If this indeed ends up solving your problem, you can take heart in the fact that the problem is going to come back every few months or so, and you'll have to delete it all over again.

Did you possibly install Internet Explorer 8? If so, you should probably try uninstalling it and see if you're able to launch again. We have numerous reports of IE8 causing Pro Tools to no longer launch - we're looking into the cause but for the moment the only solution is to revert back to a previous version of IE.

Sorry, I HAVE to chime in here. I'm running PT with an 002 Rack on a PC I built two years ago (which makes it obsolete by current standards) and it works. EVERY TIME. I would wager there are THOUSANDS of us who come to work every day and generate actual INCOME on this "poorly written piece of crap." Maybe this lends credence to the old statement that "You don't get what you want, you get what you picture..."

Now I'll step off my soapbox and ask for a sandra report, and ask for you to tell us which version of PT (I'm guessing 7.4 since you just got cs9) and what interface?
