Default ValveTone 62 vs Sony Inflator

Hi everybody,

since I learned to realize that Inflator is more of harmonic distortion than a Maximizer like the "L"s from Waves, it´s still a loudness tool, though.

BUT...
...what about the harmonic/saturation distortion? to make your music sound richer and thicker and more fatter?

ValeTone62 ( http://www.tritonedigital.com/products.htm#demo ) does a pretty good job at it, too so I am eager for your comments on a comparison and other thoughts.

I had the Infaltor demo on a whole production before I learned of Valvetone, so inflator expired
before I could not test them head to head.

I was really blown by the Inflator but being always on a budget I am always looking around.
I had no nerve to test the valve deeply, so I should do that next.

Mindnoise,

That's a strange comparison I think. ValveTone is really an EQ; it has some compression and saturation characteristics because those were attributes we built in to make our ideal color/tone shaping EQ.

Im glad you like ValveTone though! Im fond of it as well I actually really love Inflator on percussion, drums, etc and have had some good luck with it vs. L2 on some tracks that really needed more "solid" and less "crush".

Take care!

Damon

I just ordered the Valvetone '62.

Hats off my friend, one word for this plug: brilliant.

Keep up the good work!

Hi valvebro,

that´s just the tip of the iceberg of how strange I really am.

I recently started to just insert a URS BLT without any knobs set on ALL my track because I find it to SOUND better.

well, and so do Valvetone and Inflator equal in a way that you can pump the volume without getting
this metallic or hollow sound you´ll get when amplifying low or resampled or stretched signals, they´ll stay musical to a far greater extend (esp. If you have to rely on PT´s TC/E).

I guess that was my original idea.

Yep, that's one of the things about ValveTone is that is has a "sound" even when the boost/cut of both bands are at 0, just like a real valve EQ. True bypass per-band is also provided.

Coming up next (among two high-end mastering and mix EQs) will be ColorTone.

It's basically exactly what your using the BLT for; subtle channel color for use on all/lots of channels. It will have quite a few colors to choose from based on some of our favorite signal-paths, and will feature a variable drive for even more outrageous shading. ColorTone will actually be free and "regularly" updated with new colors as we come up with them.

I still need to try the BLT, I am sometimes guilty of not staying up to date on what's out there!

All the best and happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
