Default Some Good Drum Mics for Cheap?

Hello,
I was wondering if you guys could suggest
any good drum mics that are pretty good quality for a low cost.
By the way, the drum set has 2 toms (mid and floor), a snare, a bass, 8" Zildjian Splash, 20" Zildjian Ride, and a 14" Zildjian Crash...if any of that matters.

...just buggin'!
I've heard that audio technika mics are quite suitable for drums, and not too expensive.
If you want a good sound:
Kick: AKG D12/D112
Snare: Shure SM57
Toms: Sennheiser MD421/MD441
Hihat: AKG C451/AKG C414-B/Neumann KM184
Overheads: almost the same as hihat
Room/ambience: Neumann U87

good luck!

Thanks for the reply,

I was planning on buying a few 57's anyway, so that should work out good. I don't see much of a need to mic the hi-hat, since there will probally be enough bleed, and enough in the overhead.
I'd prefer not to shell out 300 bucks each for the MD421's, but I hear its one of the best mics for its price.
Well, it looks like I'm going to have to spend a good amount of money anyway.

Thanks again.

I've heard good reports on the Oktavia condensors, and I think they go for around $100 each, so there's your overheads.

A D112 or shure B52(my fav) for $150 for kick.

57's for snare and toms, or if you want to buy some killer mics for toms (that also make killer electric guitar mics) check otu the sennheiser e609 silver series for $99.

Spend some money or borrow a good LD condensor (preferably wtih an omni patter) for a room mic. the AKG C-4000B is a great choice, around $400. I't s a decent vocal and instrument mic as well.

The Rode NTK for $400 is also a good choice for room mic, and while only cardiod pattern, is a grea mic for jsut about anything.

Hope this is helpful.

I think I'm leaning toward:
Snare: SM57
Toms: Undecided (Possibly the e609s)
Bass: Beta 52
Overheads: Oktava Mk219s
Room: Rode NTK

We are already up to about $920, and thats without figuring in tom mics or tax.
Kind of expensive considering we are jobless 15 year olds. I'm considering going cheap and trying out the nady dmk7 7 piece mic set, and if it sucks beyond belief then I'll just return it and worry about expensive mics then.

I tend to configure kit with

Bass: Beyerdynamic M 260.80
Snare: Shure SM57
Close overall on axis: 2 Neumann TLM 103
Ambient overall off axis: 2 Neumann Series 180
Toms are usually very clear thru the Neumanns but if you really need to mic them a Shure sm57 won't go astray...

The neumann and beyerdynamic tend to be particularly expensive mics so if it is not in your budget, consider the Rode range of mics. They are of excellent quality and do a great job and are well priced for a studio mic.

Cheers

if you're on a budget and want some pretty good sounding drum mics - I would recommend Superlux.
I hope to be posting some music I recorded with those drum mics one day soon, but imo they sound pretty darn good for the money.

I recommend the Oktava MK012 small diaphragm condensers for overheads. (Small diaphragm condensers tend to pick up the high end(cymbals) a little bit better(accurately).)

They are going for $199.00 a pair at www.musiciansfriend.com.

Get these, a Beta52(kick), and an SM57(snare). You'll do some serious damage!

That brings you to under $500.00.

I checked out the Superluxes, and they have the right price.
My dad said he would buy the Superlux mic kit for me, and I can upgrade from there.

Thanks for the input.
