Vocalrecording - Eleven Rack - Low Latency Monitoring?
Hello 11R-users!
I love to use the low-latency-monitoring (with PT9) when recording my guitars. But now I have do record a female singer, and of course, she needs her Vocals coming out of the headphones. Is there any chance, to hear the mic-input without latency in the headphones? And of course, she would like to hear it with reverb. My older Macbook have to run with 512 Samples buffersize, and this is to much for software-monitoring. Or should I use an external Mixer and do the monitoring the old analog way? Best regards, Martin

Re: Vocalrecording - Eleven Rack - Low Latency Monitoring?
well, assuming that the Eleven Rack is your main interface (not your Fireface, since you're on PT 8 LE) i'd say give this a go:
EDIT: I realize now that you said you are on PT9, my bad. Anyway my advice remains. Set up one audio track with input set to the "Mic Input" of the 11R. Then either set another audio track (or aux track if you don't plan to record this particular track) with input set to "Eleven Rig". Then create a blank rig, with no amps, cabs, or stompbox effects (unless your singer wants them lol), only use the reverb or "studio style" effects. (if you have the expansion pack) Then take that first audio track and arm it, but also mute it so that the singer doesn't hear this track playing back. (Also arm the second track if you feel like printing it.) Make sure the second track, which is either an auxillary or audio track, is sent to the headphone mix or master so you can hear it. Since the first audio track is armed, you can record it "dry" and process it after the fact. And with the second track (given that you made it an audio track) can record the "wet". Just as you would guitar. This way, the 11R is doing all the processing without the use of plug-ins, therefore allowing you to use low-latency monitoring. Hope that helps.

Re: Vocalrecording - Eleven Rack - Low Latency Monitoring?
Thanks for your quick help!
But what means "armed" Tracks? Never heard this before (sorry, I΄m no english native speaker). Did you mean "rec enabled"?

yes, it means "rec enabled".
I like saying "armed" though. Sounds more "badass"

Re: Vocalrecording - Eleven Rack - Low Latency Monitoring?
Okay, I checked this out and it works great!
Thank you very much for your help! Some additional tips for beginners: Set the dry track volume completely down. Create a template with more copies of this "two-pack-tracks". Put every track-pair into a new group, so if you click "rec enable" on one track both tracks will record

Re: Vocalrecording - Eleven Rack - Low Latency Monitoring?
ups - "rec enable" button is ungroupable? Is this realy true?
Everytime I want to record I have to klick two times? Okay, I could live with that when recording vocals, but when it comes to real drums, this would be hell...

Re: Vocalrecording - Eleven Rack - Low Latency Monitoring?
yeah, the rec enable button is only groupable if you are on HD or have the CPTK2.
It really sucks cause it's a great feature to have at any level of using PT. Especially being able to group inserts. I really wish Avid would give us mere mortals at least the ability to group "rec enable" and eventually give us input monitoring.

Re: Vocalrecording - Eleven Rack - Low Latency Monitoring?
sorry i forgot to post this out. This is actually the "workaround" for not having record enable on groups. (it's not really a workaround though because it's dead simple) I do forget about this one a lot, and I feel like an idiot because i suck at the shortcuts.
On Mac, option+shift+click allows to change "certain" parameters on all selected tracks. So just select the group, then option+shift+click on the record enable button and done. Sorry about that. I haven't been working in PT lately. Noob moment. But yeah. Linking inserts would be really nice for groups though.
