expanding 002 input limit via lightpipe?

hey gang. i've been looking everywhere for some info on this and my search terms apparently just aren't adequate. i'm sure there are some folks in the know on the duc:

i've been told it is possible to connect another ad/da unit via lightpipe to the 002, thus increasing the amount of line inputs. can anyone confirm this? any recommended units/brands? anybody got this working? i'd like to get at least 16 channels going in (total).

Very common upgrade. I have a focusrite octopre LE, doing this which works really well, others to look into are the presonus digimax and one by m-audio.
